This may be old news, although the actual research paper only came out last month, but it is now possible to produce  hydr0c0d0ne using genetically altered yeast. It will be a while before the process is refined enough to be effective, as the article below notes " it would take 4,400 gallons of bioengineered yeast to produce a single dose of pain relief."

But in 20 years time?

Yea I read this a while back. Although I didn't realize such a quick turn around lol. Doesn't sound very viable. More like a neat research paper for a college student.

There's a lot of playing with yeast (and other bacteria) genetics to hopefully "vat grow" lots of chemicals.  It has huge potential.  Truthfully I'd see the trend in healthcare devising a non-dependence forming pain relief chemical before this even is viable.  In some sense that would be a great day, but it will also have clear negatives for many.  Spinal simulators are great, if you can afford them, if they help your situation, and if they treat the overall suffering and not just the pain.

Anywho, that was a little OT.
