anyway had weird experience at the post office today to pick up my mail. i knew from the beginning when i opened my box that this one particular person who works the front would be someone i would not like to have take my slip  to and bring my pack back to sign for it, just by his arrogance and tone. Today i get my pack not only does he look at the slip, but looks at time of delivery to my box on the slip, and comment's something like "I WANT TO KNOW HOW THIS PACKAGE GOT HERE SO QUICK"

anyway after getting my pack from the back, he's grabbing it , touching it feeling it like if its a stack of rolled up money in it, than shows it to his other employee , and comments on the way the package is  marked and on the declarations for custom's on the pack it says "SAMPLE SOAP" , so i hear another comment from him under his lip and i am atleast 3 feet away so i am pretending to look at my EASTBAY MAGAZINE, pretending thats of interest, not caring about my pack, atleast 3 postal workers had to look at my pack... jerks

i am not worried, if they want me they can  have me, i know he knows what's up, i really try to avoid him but unfortunately i try to get the pack same day it delivers to my city, but i get off work in the afternoon and he works evenings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dam should i tell my vendor to pack another way,

Don't sweat the postal employee...Once it makes it through customs, you are home free!! He can think whatever the Hell he wants!!

@yellowbelly, thanks i didn't want to what you said thinking i was being slick and a hothead, but yah just this one dude is really arrogant, like you can tell he's the type of dude that gets irritated when an elderly customer ask's him to many questions about shipping whenever he works behind the counter, but today he was working the long line , and helping people with picks get in and out not to hold the line up , usually i get cool chilled as older woman /default_smile.png

Hey Coolguy, really don't sweat it. I have a father-in-law who worked for the PO years. They hardly EVER

hold a package for security. He said he only knew of like 5 times in 20 years and usually it was smell of

something (chemical?) or leaking fluid ect. It then has to be sent to a major PO center where until a warrant

can be executed they still can not by law open and inspect any package. Thought of all this during the

Mexican vendors shipping fiasco this weekend. It only cost 19.95 to send by USPS overnight with tracking.

Tell your PO guy it's Spanish Fly and Viagra. He should see some of the movies you make. Haha!!!

lol lol , am i allowed to hold more than one po box at a different location ? but than the sort facility is gonna be like uh why this dude got 2 p.o boxes? maybe i can open a LLC, and list the 2nd box under a company name?

but than i need to apply for a TAX ID AND A LLC??

I wouldn't worry about it, like dcboots said..They're not just going to bust open your package...I use to work for Fedex a few years back, and we use to get boxes that were full of Dildos..Why they ship them with battery's I'll never know, but it wasn't uncommon to find a box vibrating its way across the loading dock in the morning! Lol... /default_laugh.png

oooh....in light of all the feedback you got here...if I were you I'd go in there and go toe-to-toe with him. Which for me would consist of direct eye contact, straight back, head up....confident tone of voice...I wouldnt even check my phone while waiting. I'd just stand there, watching his shenanigans with disinterested disapproval ...just stand there with a no-nonsense expression. Sometimes i find that works, just flip the script on the mothaf@cka! I used to be incredibly self-conscious and shy (not the same thing, but it seems similar because I was always nervous and shifty and geeking out about everything) I found that assholes can sense your discomfort and will pounce on you!

And this guy just sounds like a run of the mill prick, who you could encounter anywhere and likes to act like the mail is a huge deal and he's super important. But he can't do shit to you! which is awesome !

Thanks for the like suzie and it reminded me to say that boxes of dildos are hilarious!!! I'd have loved to been a fly on the wall

Omg... YB, that is hilarious!!!!
Yeah, it was quite comical...Every once in a while, I would make a delivery, and a little kid would come up to the truck, and sure as shit, the box would start buzzing again...What do you say to a little kid, when they ask what's in the box? Oh Yeah, a bug zapper that got left on... /default_unsure.png

lol lol thats wild vibrating dildo's for lonely housewives :/

thought the mail man, pool boy, & delivery guy was a girls best friend....lol

any how i used to have 2 different boxes 2 different companies. didnt have any issues for 4 years and one got 4 LL's from the same vendor. had to dump it and get another one some where else. guess all 4 packs of gadors busted open cause they didnt ship at the same time.

It is against regulations in the Domestic Mail Manual for an employee to 'manipulate' the mail in an attempt to determine it's contents. I cannot remember the exact term for it ( yes it has a name) -- but it's in there.

You could complain to the Postmaster of that office-- and that person could face disciplinary action. For obvious reasons -- I don't recommend it though. Though -- you might send him an 'anonymous tip' that you've seen this going on-- but mail it from out-of-town. /default_wink.png

He may guess what's up... but he can't really do anything-- as long as you keep it low-key, and aren't getting packages from your vendors several times a week.

Looks like a postal employee will be getting his hands on your future soap deliveries. Hopefully you don't need soap on a rope if he opens it up man.

Every piece of mail is physically image scanned to have a visual record of all sender/receiver info to watch for t3rr0rism. Apparently they can post videos online but still use snail mail. The lemmings follow each other off the cliff.

NO postal worker-- in a regular delivery station (your local PO) -- is authorized to "open up" a package.  To do so is grounds for being FIRED outright.

NOT EVEN THE POSTMASTER.   PERIOD.

The ONLY circumstances where they can do anything of this kind-- has to meet very SPECIFIC criteria. That criteria is directly related to the "Unabomber" -- or if it is leaking what may be toxic materials (liquid/powder/gasses). Then the have to call a specialized emergency-response team, and EVACUATE the building. They come in w/specialized equipment and remove the item. The building might be shut down for days-- in these circumstances-- while they discover what was in that package.

That said-- some items we get-- especially those from foreign countries travel a long way, and their countries either have very weak, or in some cases NO... regulations on how a package may be wrapped. Some come through falling open-- spilling their contents. EVEN if THAT happens , unless there are pills or oz of H*r0in in plain sight. All we can do is recover/repackage that material-- and send it on to it's destination. This is the law-- and postal regulation.

Do we occasionally have a bad person in our company -- who does open stuff, and steal ? Yes-- and they ALWAYS get caught /fired/taken away in handcuffs/charged with felonies.

3. What authority do Postal Inspectors have under the law?

As sworn federal law enforcement agents, Postal Inspectors have the power to serve warrants and subpoenas issued under the authority of the United States; make arrests without warrant for postal-related offenses committed in their presence; make arrests without warrants for postal-related felonies cognizable under the laws of the United States, if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person arrested has committed or is committing such a felony; carry firearms, and make seizures of property as provided by law.

4. Can Postal Inspectors open mail if they feel it may contain something illegal?

First-Class letters and parcels are protected against search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, and, as such, cannot be opened without a search warrant. If there is probable cause to believe the contents of a First-Class letter or parcel violate federal law, Postal Inspectors can obtain a search warrant to open the mailpiece. Other classes of mail do not contain private correspondence, and therefore may be opened without a warrant.
