Personally, I thought most western countries stopped being democracies long ago.

A new study from Princeton spells bad news for American democracy—namely, that it no longer exists.
Asking "who really rules?" researchers Martin Gilens and Benjamin I. Page argue that over the past few decades America's political system has slowly transformed from a democracy into an oligarchy, where wealthy elites wield most power.

Yep, we are an oligarchy...been saying that for years, while Americans continue to assert their rights under the Constitution.

I was thinking more of plutocracy or corporatocracy.

The patriot act(nice name) made that piece of paper called the constitution nu and void. we are still in a state of emergency since 911. Obozo said he would end it. Did he? Nope he renewed it each year. If a politicians lips are moving he or she is telling a lie.

Also just a FYI. I never click links like the orig poster posted. The n$a has a program where you can be behind 10 proxys and if you click a link on a page or email they post they got ya. Funny thing is a major dealer clicked a link to a news article they sent him. Got his location instantly. Lol

The US was designed as a Republic. In a true Democracy we would decide policy matters directly vs voting on a representative to decide on our behalf..but yes Sskott and peanut it is very clear who really holds the power and rules.

I can cut and paste with the best of them.

I think when American feel that we live in a democratic society the word is more of a general term to describe the country since most Americans are too dumb and lazy to really understated how our country became to be the way it is.

The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic[18][19] consisting of 50 states and a federal district.

means

The United States is the world's oldest surviving federation. It is a constitutional republic and representative democracy, "in which majority rule is tempered by minority rights protected by law"

And I still don't understand exactly what our political system is. I'm just another dumb ass Wikipedia whore.

Haha if we understood we would revolt! If the 1% rule, the 99% are idiots...i mean they are out numbered 99% us 1% them. Keep watching brian williams or fox news ppl. If 1% rules 99% we truely are ducked. As long as the 1% will at least buy a comfortable barrel we will be fine.

On another note: Electoral College ( not an actual college folks) is what determines the presidency in this country...not your vote. There have been rogue electorates that have voted differently than their state had voted (state % picks dude A, electoral college member picks B. The higher the population, the more electorates (and power) the state has. There are only a handful of states that actually decide an election, as the current red/blue map pretty much stays the same. Over the last few decades, the ONLY way to win the white house is to win in Ohio. Odd fact: Ohio's House & Senate both have a super majority for redumblicans, yet elected a dem president twice. Odd, eh? Those nifty electronic voting machines with unsecured wifi?

We actually are not a Democracy, we are a constitutional republic. Even then I don't think we have been for a very long time. The rich control the country through the media and behind the scene payoffs. They do this to control things and to protect their fortunes. A great example that really chaps my hide lol, was Michael  Bloomberg who lives on the eastcoast spending millions on a campaign against guns in Washington state. Why does this asshole have to try and impose his will on me 3000 miles away. Damn Jackass.

when you live in a society there isn't much choice, but it seems like lately that we aren't going by majority rules anymore, it seems a lot like the minority is making all of the rules.

I disagree that the American people are “too stupid and lazy...”

For beginners, I believe the majority of us are all being sedated and appeased. (Not to mention, slowly poisoned).

For example, it is recorded that during WW2, the Germans diligently put strong additives in their prisoner’s water supply. The intent was to keep their Jewish victims ‘docile’, as it was easier to manage the vast number.  What they purposely added to the water then, is currently being added to most municipal water supplies, as it’s mandatory in most cities. (Unless one lives in an area where its citizens out-voted it, or one is so fortunate and has access to a well with a separate water supply, enough of us get our daily dose. You guessed it-it’s called Fluoride.

That same chemical is also sold by prescription for the treatment of depression, etc. and you can get it in capsule form, they call it Prozac.

And that’s just for beginners.

It's threads like this that help me believe that I do still have my faculties about me.  But don't take away my prozac!  I'll drink my water and take my pill like a good little boy.

  1. B @ bigblueallda: @drjimmy1964 lol I am actually surprised it is a real ID. I needed those documents because my license had been expired for over a year and I had to start all over. Nothing was in the system. It was a huge mess. I had no clue I was signing up for Real ID. They asked me for the exact same documents that I needed for a State ID Card.
  2. P @ psychedpsych: Whew, long night of giving rides. How's y'all's night go? Im debating driving for 2 more rides to hit my goal, should I keep going?

  7. drjimmy1964 @ drjimmy1964: @bigblueallda I was under the impression that you'd need all of the points to get a real ID . I'd check it's validity if you're gonna fly domestic any time soon, just to make sure. Not to tell you what to do, sorry -
  8. B @ bigblueallda: @drjimmy1964 In my state to get a Real ID, I need SS card, Birth Certificate and two proofs of residency. Which I am positive I had to provide to get a new ID when it had been expired.
  9. drjimmy1964 @ drjimmy1964: @Turbo259 advertising - putting in writing for example an negative action to show they are guilty prior to taking action.

  17. B @ bigblueallda: {Visit your local Driver Service Bureau with the necessary documents: original birth certificate, Social Security card, and two proofs of your state's residency. } I definitely provided this when I had to get a new ID when i let mine go expired too long maybe I unknowingly got one but I think it is pretty standard here.
  18. B @ bigblueallda: Well it was a state id renewal. Before that there was a mixup and I had lost my birth certficate and social security number. After a couple of weeks and finally getting several documents in order I was able to get a state ID. It had been expired previously for a little too long and they wanted all kinds of proof. It was a mess. But nah I looked up what to look for an my state's ID to see if it is a Real Id or not and my card as the symbol it is supposed to have. I'll take a closer look though
  19. drjimmy1964 @ drjimmy1964: @bigblueallda are you sure you have a Real ID ? I mean , they really want 6 points of proof and 1 for your addy and 1 for your SSN. Did you maybe get it done and forgot and flew out of the country or something ?
  20. drjimmy1964 @ drjimmy1964: Actually it says "Not For Real ID Purposes". That is my 2022 renewal of my 2018 picture ID. I am not due till 2026 and I am sure they will make me go in since my pic would be 8 years old - they used to make you go in in my state for aging when I was younger, then went paper - then back to picture ( I think 9/11 to blame for that ) but relaxed it.
