What's a "poke"

I should be able to find the answer to this, but can't.  If anyone has a moment, please tell me what a "poke" amounts to.  In the offline world it of course has several connotations: poke greens, pig in a poke, a jab to get attention, a right cross,  "pokey" to go slow, and the slang for sex, maybe more.  I was thinking you can just email someone and say "hey" so I wondering if that's all it is.

It literally just allows you to get someone's attention. I like the other definitions however.....?

 
Where I come from poke has precisely 250000000000 different definitions. From vulgar to non vulgar.

" A poke of chips" - a container in which to carry your chips.

heeds oot the gutter guys & gals  :P

 
When Admin poked me, I felt naughty. As a verb, my mind went straight to the gutter. I need to get a grip and start poking freely ;)
