I have to buy a new laptop and my limit is $500.00. I just need a workhorse, Don't need it for games or movies or porn(well maybe a little bit of nudity but it's only becuase I sometimes inadvertantly click on a boobie site).

Any suggestions of which brand(S) would suit my needs and are there any good online sites that are cheaper than the Big Boxes? If you know of a particular model that would really help too.

Thanks

I wish you live closer to me because I have a nice HP i5 2.7ghz CPU,  8GB of RAM and 320GB hard drive laptop for sale for $450.   It is brand new as I buy surpluses from a large party (I can'[t mention who)

I like Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba and lastly HP.   Acer is OK but cheap.   Just make sure you are getting at least Intel i3 CPU and 8GB of RAM.  I am sure you can find those at $500.

Don't get AMD.. they are too slow to my taste compared to i3/i5/i7

I would check out newegg.com,  tigerdirect.com and maybe eBay (buy from powersellers only)

Actually  Microsoftstore.com is a great place for laptops although they do charge sales tax but they offer free returns on everything in case you're disappointed with it.

I just spend 15 minutes writing a nice post and as usual I hit some key and the screen went somewhere else and I lost everything. Never happenings with a real keyboard. I'm not redoing it.

All I will say is I presently own a Toshiba Satellite 875D?

Hi HB,

OMG I wrote a long, articulate email to a place telling them they suck, and it was in one of those popup comments, and i twitched and hit enter when i was really getting into it, so it sent when I was halfway through. There was no way for me to get the text i already sent, and just gave up. Now i learned to write all my shit in a draft email so i can copy and paste (yet I’m an idiot and not doing that now, lol).

Anyway, you live in NY? My IT friend has a shit ton of machines he customizes and then he says he’s gonna sell them and they just sit around. I don’t know much about PCs anymore, but he specifically mentioned the Lenovo Laptop being awesome that he upgraded and was looking to sell it.

Also, two sites I buy parts for My macs on (My IT friends call me a gear head, lol) have PC Laptops for good prices. One that is insanely cheap is gainsaver.com and the other is pcpartsohio.com. PC Parts Ohio is a third party seller i was using on newegg.com called PC Parts unlimited. It’s cheaper to get through the guy on his site. He even negotiated the price down because i left shit sitting in my cart. You can try that approach, leave it in overnight. I always take forever to buy shit. I even had quickpharmas harassing me for a week because I had something in my cart and changed my mind. Oh shit i went off topic, lol. I don’t want to be one of those turds that people cringe when i post, so i bet after today i will be stealth again.

Also a bigger store that has good sales and is all computer shit is microcenter.com. They have two stores in NY and other ones around the country, but you can order shit online too.

I can’t PM you because I never talk on this shit, but you can PM me if need any more help, although I don’t even know what happens when you get one and i might not realize it’s there. lol. Hope this helps!

Jen

That is a decent laptop.     As for your trouble,  make sure you installed touchpad drivers for palmcheck or whatever it's called.

Just don't get an overpriced Macs.. they are just toys to me /default_tongue.png

I'll go to my grave before I buy an Apple product.

Thanks for help everyone.

I can't get stuck on Consumers Reports ratings. If I go with Levono, HP, or Dell I don't have to buy CR's recommended model. They are all good brands. Levono's a bit pricey for me though.

I may go back to Toshiba case they have the John Holmes size screen. I don't need bells and whistles just something with decent speed and a big monitor.

HP is always solid.  I would stay away from Intel given that the NSA likes to put tracking chips and keyloggers in random models.  Just something I heard.

Here is my computer IQ.

I just bought a stylist for my Nexus Tablet(bought 2+ years ago so I'm not that far behind).

Which end of this damn thing do I use? The soft end or the hard end?

Thanks

Well MMMkkayyyy  /default_tongue.gif. I’m a graphic designer, so in college i switched because that’s what the industry uses and we were taught on. Now I’ll never get a disposable PC turd again. My 2011 3.4 ghz i7 Quad is faster than most new PCs now. And i just put in a solid state drive and 32 GB of ram, so that thing flies. I’ll be able to resell it for a decent amount of money when I’m ready to buy another. My 2008 iMac still runs great, I use it as a backup. They cost a lot more, but you get what you pay for. It’s investing in something that will last a long time. I know it’s not practical to get a mac if you don’t need to use it for media, but you can always get rid of windows and make your PC a hackintosh with the better OS. AND That shit is free, no need to pay for it or get a serial hack. lol. You shouldn’t be hating on apple anyway, your namesake is the Chief Creative Officer for their Beats music thing. He’s part of the machine now.
Ha ha.

Well if you can splurge on the extra 29 dollars, here is a link to one i just found that has the newest processors. Is 15.4†John Holmes enough, or just Ron Jeremy? lol.

Thanks for all the advice but what about my stylist question?

Jenni you're comparing a 10" Netbook to a 17''+Toshiba. Being the lady that you are you would probably not be able to relate to the two different screen sizes.

Oh shit yours is a 17 It’s gonna be hard… um difficult to find a machine with the larger screen without sacrificing some of the speed. Actually it’s not 15.4†it’s 15.6,†so that’s not off by much. Bitch please, I don’t know where they get that girls don’t care about size. My girlfriends and I would talk shit, we were worse than our guy friends. lol. But that might just be me, being such a classy brawwwd. lol

I don’t know shit about using a stylus. It;s gotta be the soft side though, so it doesn’t scratch the screen. Some of the designers I worked with have something called a wacom tablet where you had a digital pen and drew on the pad off to the side and it would show up on screen. I just couldn’t do it for some reason, only with the mouse or a real pen on paper directly. I am also not as saavy with the mobile devices and swiping and typing on touch screens. It took me a long time to reply to my mom’s texts. She’s more into that shit than me. It freaked me out at first. lol. I’m an old school computer nerd, it’s hard for me to carry shit small shit around and focus on it like I can sitting at my desk. I must be too ADD. lol.

Ron Jeremy = 10" Netbook

John Holmes = 17"+ Toshiba

Me, I'm a Google  Nexus 7 tablet.

I always been hating Apple for a LONG time /default_smile.png  Way before we even heard of iPods.   They do makes excellent laptops no doubt about that but there are also excellent PC high end laptops.    Part of it is the operating system itself, OS X.   First of all, I have an old Toshiba C2D 2.2Ghz/4GB laptop running the latest OS X Yosemite - that you would call a hackintosh.   I use it just for my Mac repairs (file recovery for one)  Anyway,   the way OS X works is off putting to me.  I'm not fond of its UI quirkness - not to say Windows didn't have it but Windows works very well for my needs.  I don't even have an antivirus installed but I know what I am doing when using Windows (I also run a local computer repair shops servicing PCs and Macs).  I also use Linux daily - it's really awesome as CLI.  GUI not so much.  I know some would disagree but Windows UI is W A Y better than Linux and OS X GUI IMO.

But mainly the reason why I "hate" Apple even more are the overpriced oversized phone called "iPad"s and the way Apple/Tech media been harping, it will end the PC which I laughed at the time and still lauhing now.   A Windows x86 tablets are much more funcational than iPads and Androids because it runs full OS unlike iOS/Android...

  4. ClintEastwood @ ClintEastwood: Robert Duvall and a handful of others were a younger actors coach and always said no one worked as hard as those guys did. Robert Duvall and rest would read the full script 228 over and over, then after the last read they would go into how to perform their character. The young man had made it to meet Al who are greats and pull them to the side. And explain what his coach said. They all looked back and said out of every role you’ve seen me in. I have read it 228 by myself. 🫡 🫢 🫢 🫢
  5. ClintEastwood @ ClintEastwood: Sorry for comment below, but I couldn’t delete. Know I see the
  6. Realbenzeyes @ Realbenzeyes: Yeah Robert Duvall passing is a hard one. RIP
  7. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: Damn. Just heard Robert Duvall passed away Sunday. That’s a tough one. He’s one of my favorite actors. From Lonesome Dove to the Godfather and many others. We will miss you Mr Duvall. You entertained us for 7 decades. RIP
  8. L @ Layne_Cobain: @ClintEastwood make a post about it homie they’re gonna take down your message here cuz shout box isn’t really for talking shop just random shooting the shit exc but yeh just put your message in a post on the forum in the appropriate place and ppl will get at you! 👊 ✌️
  9. ClintEastwood @ ClintEastwood: Just wondering if anyone well trusted has a supply of research thienos or benz in powders for good average prices? Or could give a shout out from me to him? Or the best lowest per each? I’ve seen some cool and some i just know are worth it. Good price rv presses too but it is much more bang for your buck. I have one good vendor. But am looking for variety’s well. Send me a message or reply if you think any. Thanks - CLINT E. Any Heavy stuff too which all seem about the ssmmmmmm
  10. Realbenzeyes @ Realbenzeyes: I always thought I should’ve been born in a much earlier time but I will say, i do enjoy my Xbox and occasional TV series tho 😂
  11. Realbenzeyes @ Realbenzeyes: I just wish the opioid epidemic never happened. Fk the turn of the century (which would be cool no doubt)! Many of my friends and family would’ve ended up in asylums like so many others. I just wish I could get back all those I’ve lost since the start
  12. L @ Layne_Cobain: 1914 I meant
  13. L @ Layne_Cobain: I often wish I lived during the turn of the century or at least before the Harrison narcotics act or whatever I think it was 1924 the fun ended but anyway yeh being able to get laudanum, ❄️ and amphetamine at the local friendly pharmacy
  14. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: Chew on the leaves with a bit of slaked lime and enjoy the mild boost you get from the raw base.
  15. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: I’m sure you know the folks in the mountainous regions along South Americas pacific side buy cócà leaves at the local farmers market just to help acclimate to the higher elevation when they have to head up into the hills.
  16. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: I would certainly have bought it, swilled it, enjoyed it…. Why not? A little boost in your juice isn’t going to hurt anyone.
  17. R @ Royboy99: Exports were reported to have around 7.2mg per FL OZ, it’s success is what actually led to Coca Cola
  18. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: Having cramps and husband thinks you’re acting hysterical (ie. PMS) the doc would either perform a certain massage to relieve the strains of motherhood and family life of that time or send you down to the local apothecary for a bottle of laudanum… A tincture of alcohol and 10% òpìųm. Fun days huh?
  19. R @ Royboy99: @malestrom: yeah thats it, my bad Mariani, yeah i considered that and also its ROA, which was oral so the bioavailability was lower than insufflation, higher degree of purity tho and longer duration … there was a significant marked increase of patents filed by Edison during the time it was released in the US. Presidents were known to use it as well, and the Queen. The pope awarded the wine the Vatican gold medal award
  20. Maelstrom @ Maelstrom: I think it was called vin Mariani. But yeah, it was all the rave back in the turn to the 20th century. Original formula Coca Cola did it for a while too. I think it was pretty weak though. Something like 200 mg per liter of wine. Enough to maybe give you a little push but unless you could pound some serious alcohol, it’d be hard to really feel the effects before the ethyl knocked you down on the ground. It was an interesting time period. Laudanum was a “hysterical” woman’s best friend.
