Moneygram Problems

DOJ stands for Department Of Justice, no?  What’s “just” about them having authority to seize anything?
But thanks for the heads up.  I’d be on BTC in a heartbeat if I could figure it out better...I have some wallets, but still trying to get some verification code from an exchange to buy.  My local supermarket has a BTC ATM that requires ID, would you personally bother with doing it that way?  And fuck coinbase!  They burned me once last year.

@bdz I was going to try an ATM service in the new year. I would like to find a faster alternative to Coinbase that a simpleton like me can use.

You might want to check out edge wallet app, and use the LibertyX options on there. I have used the cash buy option mostly, it’ll eat 8%, so plan for that bite!

last purchase I used debit atm , so less covert for sure; but I’m not sure I like the transaction transparency on my debit account. It was convenient with more like a 6%fee. But I will probably stuck with the cash in the future.
Any how, BTC was available immediately in both cases.

If you are committing a crime in the United States, anything used to commit the crime can be confiscated by the DOJ, cars , houses, cash. And the money transfer services turn it over. Paypal freezes it too, very easy.  Don’t sell counterfeit goods and use Paypal to collect the money.  You can try to hire a lawyer to get it back but it’s better to turn it over and negotiate plea

@bdz @2earls If you decide to try using a local atm to buy bitcoin, I’d advise extreme caution. I got ripped off with like more than a 50% fee when I tried to use one. I don’t even know what % the fee was because it didn’t give me any warning ahead of time. Totally predatory IMO(somebody needs to tell Elizabeth Warren lol). I put in $200 and got like $120 in BTC. Spend $80 to get $120!!! I have since heard that Bitcoin ATMs are notorious for exorbitant fees, and don’t expect them to be honest and upfront about what they’re charging. After that raping, I wrote an email to the ATM company in question, basically saying what the fuck there must be some mistake who charges $80 to buy $120? And they basically told me “that’s how we roll so suck it up”. Granted, this is an extreme case. But BTC atms are sketchy, so be careful. Fees higher than 15% are de rigeur from what I’ve heard.

I’m not saying don’t do it, just be careful and do your research in advance. And start with a small amount of $. I’m sure there are non-predatory atms, just a question of finding them.

I mean the ATM company actually told me “Bitcoin ATMs commonly charge up to 40% fees”. Which is in itself ridiculous to the point of being offensive. But I got charged well over 40% for reasons unknown, and they wouldn’t even look into it. Pretty sketchy/unsavory business practices. I’m guessing it just isn’t regulated much, so it’s a Wild West kind of situation. Now I just use Coinbase and Coinmama.

I appreciate your cautionary tale. Ouch!  My nearest BTC ATM has mostly Spanish instructions on it, even though that demographic is only a fraction of the diverse shoppers at that store, so I felt alienated just passing it, even if I can read Spanish, just takes longer and more effort.  Maybe I’ll further investigate Coinmamma.  Thanks for sharing.

I see warnings about using mg/wu but the sy/email vendors seem to only accept that.

I was hoping to find a way to pay without having to go into a store but I can’t seem to do them online either.

I just had a moneygram account suspended and access revoked after sending a payment. a day later and no response from moneygram about the case that i started.  wtf, does it sound like a DOJ seizure of funds? What will happen in this case?

  4. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: whereas if I use fiat to buy something the money is green anyway. Monero does this really well. Anyway rant over, you can DM me if you'd like to talk more about cryptos.
  5. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: I don't really think that people understand the whole point of cryptos in the first place anymore. BTC just won't be adopted by governments because the transactions are too public and what's worse, money that is freshly minted is better than money that has been used. Like if my btc was used for something that was illegal does that mean the money is "poisoned"?
  6. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: @xenxra Yeah, Like I said I've never really been that fond of btc, it isn't used as a currency, just as a place for people to invest money in, even though the whole purpose of btc was to be a currency. If it doesn't fulfill that role, what does? Monero certainly does.

  10. D @ dragnetopher: No, I don’t think it. I know it. And it’s not just bitcoin, it’s all crypto. And like I said, they’re selling to acquire liquidity for when countries truly start utilizing what’s been set in place. The USD is under controlled demolition as we speak. This is all part of it.

  12. xenxra @ xenxra: tokenisation is not a plan its already been happening for months, ive been trading this whole move on silver through ethereum
  13. xenxra @ xenxra: you think whales are dumping bitcoin because of something everyone has known about for like 4 years? what does bitcoin liquidity have to do with trading tokenized assets? they don't have pooled liquidity.
  14. D @ dragnetopher: Whales are tanking BTC due to the fact that the future is coming now, literally. There’s a plan to tokenize every single asset possible. This is whales dumping so they can have liquidity for the Springtime.
  15. xenxra @ xenxra: @Gulp2788 this is a terrible spot to buy bitcoin haphazardly because it's going down another $5k -$7k if 80,000 doesn't hold. i told everyone to get the fuck out of bitcoin at $103k. it's better to buy late when the bottom is more certain than throw darts and act like the opposite outcome was unavoidable just because it went down "a lot" and everyone seems to be "freaking out". wait for it to get back over 85k
  16. xenxra @ xenxra: @aarons the last time i said monero was on discount in here it went up 5x in 3 months
  17. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: good opportunity to buy more btc if you are gonna do so imo, me I'm buying the btc to switch into better currencies
  18. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: bah politics, no need to worry BTC is a honeypot anyway
  19. fishladder @ fishladder: down since trump
