Was wondering if anyone knew that orange juice but mainly pure grapefruit juice enhances the effect of the drugs. Orange juice is more for Opiates I believe,

@klonaren umm ya but not the legal stuff we take. my dr. had me do ketamine infusion's then orally wit orange juice idk why but he prescribed 30cc's mixed wit oj. I think 2 mask the taste. that stuff was intense,we use it on the battlefield now cause it dnt lower your heart rate pluse you dnt relize you've been hit so u dnt go in 2 shock! #LIFESAVENMEDS

Just basically buy grapefruit juice, 100 percent , ocean spray or tropicana , your body is to busy digesting that that some of the chemicals in it allow more drugs into your system

"Grapefruit juice is a potent inhibitor of the intestinal cytochrome P-450 3A4 system (specifically: CYP3A4 - mediated drug metabolism) which is responsible for the first-pass metabolism of many medications.  This interaction can lead to increases in bioavailability and corresponding increases in serum drug levels.  In many cases, the increased  serum drug levels can  produce some readily observable symptoms.

Here are a few examples of adverse effects  that are possible when  the following medications are taken concurrently with  grapefruit.
(1)  Excessive sedation: benzodiazepines.
(2) Increased risk of rhabdomyolyis: HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins)-- there are some exceptions.
(3)  Symptomatic hypotension: dihydropyridine calcium antagonists (some exceptions exist).
(4) QT interval prolongation: astemizole, cisapride, pimozide,  terfenadine."

Indeed grapefruit juice is well known to potentiate opiates.  But the article you're quoting is showing the *adverse* (read: unwanted) side effects the juice can have on other drugs.   So, while you're recommending this juice, it may not be the best idea.

For example, I don't look to experience "excessive sedation" on benzos.  I'd rather stay awake and enjoy the chill. /default_cool.png

I'm not out to prove you wrong dude, just stating my thoughts.

In fact, through my *personal studies*, I've come to learn that the best way to increase the meds effect is to pair your benz' with a few ice cold bottles of budweiser.

Call me old fashioned, thats what works best for me /default_wink.png

I always drank fresh grapefruit juice back in the day. I still do occasionally, but I was on benzos for years until they came out with that report.  I never noticed any effects whatsoever.  Maybe my body is just used to it?

Maybe I should have layed off the grapefruit juice this last xanax run... got really tired all the time so yeah, I actually wouldn't recommend it even though I used to think it was the best idea

Rude much?  I don't know why you think its ok to talk to people in this condescending manner.  I've been nothing but polite and courteous to you.  But thanks for insinuating I'm a crackhead drop out outshined by your brilliance. Lol.

The article you posted showed ADVERSE reactions.  Adverse = unwanted, bad.  Thank you for 'helping me' to understand your aspirations to be a zombie.

Respecting others opinions will get you a lot farther in this life.  You should try it sometime.

I knew that grapefruit juice potenated benzos, but did not know that OJ potenates opiates.............time to go to the store...lol /default_biggrin.png

Sorry for coming off as a rude prick in this post , I did not want to sound like I was more educated than anyone , I do not know what was up with me that day after coming back and reading this

Most orange juice and etcetera is not going to have the same effect as grapefruit. Primarily the Seville orange is the variety that most inhibits CYP 3A4. It is mainly used in marmalade. I think we'd really have to look pretty hard to find a carton of Seville orange juice. Valencia pretty much has the market covered for juice.

Been a very sad few days but 2 complete (irl anyway) strangers cared enough about what I was going through to talk to me about it, though they owe me nothing and have no reason to help my personal pain other than the kindness in their own hearts. Just shows that this place is a real community, not just a forum of people who only care about themselves.
  13. LW815 @ LW815: Was nodding in/out the entire time writing those shouts and spparently was fully out sending the last one lol. But II find it ‘uplifting’ as two people I’ve never actually met and only know the others online presence through subscriptions, who I have a better chance of getting a handy J from Jesus Christ himself, both were so quick to share their own experience and wise words and assurances that things will look up and not to feel guilty or be mad at somebody for going that route - as you never

Not that I’d assumed they’re cold/A-holes - it was just a lot from somebody who’s technically a competent stranger.
