Lisa Ling had a show on vh1 all about this that's why they were busted.
cant tell if serious or..... I doubt lisa ling on vh1 was the reason they were busted LMAO

Yeah, a big bust just happened to coincide with the shows airing I would think.

On another link I read a story about how LE took a major ch!ld p0rn peddler out with a coincidental raid too. The subject is anything but funny, which is why I could not believe the headline " Gov't Dealt Largest Blow ever to Ch!ld P0rn ring". I had to shake my head and wonder how an Editor in Chief let that pass. All I could do was feel glad they took some of that shit offline, but still hate the way they told the headline.

My proposed punishment for the peddlers is to spend a life sentence eating only laxatives and spending their time hung by their toes until they die, covered with the same excrement they peddled to perverts, who should get the same sentence when caught.

I'd sure hate to be a now-former SR vendor right about now, presuming the evidentiary claims are accurate. And I did a double take when I read that DPR was being represented by a public defender. Likely trying to avoid exposing his assets by retaining a defense team, but I think I'd take that risk if I were facing these charges. Putting his life in the hands of a PD doesn't seem like the wisest move, but then again, that's just one Wookie's opinion.
I thought the same thing that I believe was mentioned in the story, he is keeping the encryption as a bargaining chip to a lesser sentence. Given the time the gov't will break the code so he had better be working on a deal real quick.

I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned it. Theres 2 alternatives to the silk road. Black market reloaded has been around as long as SR. And sheep marketplaced opened in may. I'd reccomend sheep just because BMR sells child porn, I personally refuse to do associate with anyone involved in that line of business.

Indeed, you are correct. However, I'd recommend exercising extreme caution with any "marketplace" site of that kind. With SR having been taken down, along with another competitor who's name escapes me at the moment (Atlantis maybe?), it would seem to only be a matter of time before BMR, etc, become hard targets.

Supply will always find a way to meet demand, but I'm not sure that this type of format will be a successful distribution model going forward.

I read the article as well and thought the wording of the title was poorly chosen

Yep child porn and stolen personal information. I see the deep web vendors the same as clearnet vendors. How many clearnet sources do you have that you were using 10 years ago or even 5. They raided SR, Atlantis opted out and two more sprung up to replace them. I don't think SR dying was the end of an era, it was the end of a monopoly. Besides the deep web is far safer for the vendor and buyer if proper precaution us used.dread pirate got arrested because honestly he was an amateur. He made stupid mistakes on multiple occasions and he was caught.

The take down of SR and the still undisclosed techniques utilized by US LE to identify, access and seize the participating T*R Network server that was hosting SR was today's lead story in the USA Today's print edition. A link to the story on their website can be found below. While I won't offer in-depth analysis or detail, the truth is that some elements of this piece, both articulated and "between the lines", are very troubling to me from a privacy and security standpoint, and should CLEARLY illustrate to anyone who takes the time to read and digest the story just how critical our security protocols and related rules here at DBG are, given the current industry landscape. The US government makes it painfully clear, and in no uncertain terms, that you have no privacy, period. As such, I encourage everyone to heed this dire warning and redouble your efforts to engage in best / safe practices, and to proactively encourage other members to do the same. We simply must hold each other accountable where safety and security is concerned. Our very survival as a community depends on it. The good news, however, is that the 1st Amendment still exists, and we can protect ourselves as individuals and as a community, so long as we band together in furtherance of a common goal, and do everything in our power to uphold our internal standards. As the saying goes, we're only as strong as our weakest link.

Very nicely put Jewy.

Like I said before if LE wants to pop us they will. No amount of technology will prevent that.

Common sense is one of the best ways to protect ourselves and the community.  Just think about your habits and try not to be too predictable. Keep the Q&A simple too please.

Do you all really think they have every transaction record like they say in that article? Also feel like if they found the server months ahead of time they would have at least gone ahead and made some big busts or "whole country" interceptions projects or things like that..

Yes, they do. The actual web server is in the federal government's possession, and that has been confirmed by a law school classmate of mine who is now a US District judge. In terms of interdiction methods, DGSB and Hooter can speak to this in greater detail, and have a higher level of expertise, but no, there wouldn't necessarily be some sort of nationwide package interception project in advance of taking down the site and its operator. The methodology is to "kill the entire body by killing the head", so to speak. Take out the market place, and there's no need to spend millions on a nationwide package interception project.

Also, make no mistake, there WILL be "big busts", and there have been several already, including one in the Tacoma area that has been discussed here on the board. According to my former classmate and current judge referenced above, the DOJ has a minimum of 130 cases against SR vendors prepared and ready for filing, pending approval by the Attorney General. More disconcerting is the fact that that is simply the opening round, and there will be more as private PGP keys are obtained from defendants in exchange for plea bargains, which will expose more transactions, and ultimately more suppliers and additional prosecutions.

Make no mistake, this is a very, very serious situation, and anyone who was active on SR as a vendor would be wise to retain counsel, or at least have counsel resources ready and available, as the DOJ fully intends to make an example of all involved in this case in an attempt to deter future marketplace style sites from being developed. Black Market Reloaded, and all others like it, will likely be short lived as well.

well on the bright side Id imagine LE has a full plate at the moment and wont be paying us much attention. and just a thought for all the paranoid people like myself, I only use mobile devices registered under fictitious names and bought with cash while wearing a disguise....trace my IP all you want, just leads to a dead end

Great points oh medicated one. Since everyone thinks Wookies aren't real anyway, I can get away without the disguise, although when Heisenberg and I are out on "supply runs" for the Beach Bar & Pharmacy, we have to set him up in more incognito fashion. The good news is, Wookie masks are plentiful on Ebay. In fact, here's a little pic from our last outing, LOL!

Hahaha, good picture!

You sure won't be dropping any supplies with those gloves on.

M&M you're right LE has bigger fish to fry than us but someone here will get busted eventually because they were careless or stoopid or both. So kids let's still be careful out there.

Heisenberg posted a link a while back of other email providers. I found it very helpful. Another way to mix things up.

Thanks again H for that link.

I saw on the national news today that the SR is back up and running but the new guy says no child porn or guns this time. A drug lord with morals. How refreshing!

That won't last a New York minute. They didn't "allow" those things before, and in fact, at one point launched "The Armory" specifically to cater to the arms crowd. It didn't last but a matter of months. None of the indictments thus far have anything to do with illegal arms or pedo charges to my knowledge, only distribution, conspiracy to distribute and money laundering. Whoever the "new guy" is, quite frankly, is a fool. Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Wow.

Oh, and remember, the original DB board went down briefly, only to return for about 6 months. Ultimately, it was revealed that the alphabet boys simply re-launched it as an evidence gathering and investigative tool to build more cases. Don't think for a second that that isn't possible here as well.

It is actually thought to be that the new guy is the original DPR... the one that got busted quoted in the very start of SR something about the founder DPR... I knew SR2 was in the works and there was a new forum but I haven't even been on Tor for like a month... I can't risk being around any SR related shit lol... I'm just glad I stopped using it about 8 months before it went down as I was pretty much there from the start!
