My nick comes from a character in the Thomas Pynchon novel Gravity's Rainbow.  Something about the weird, paranoid, but still smooth talking Tyrone Slothrop just connected with me on a really elemental level. The book is probably my all time favorite book I've read, and Slothrop is the most enduring character I've ever encountered.

Very simply, Pat was my best friend in high school and for several years thereafter. He passed away from complications from esophageal cancer he was like nothing you ever seen before LOL.
