Tramadol

Although tram has addicitive potential, so do all other strong pain medicines. Luckily I am one of the people tram works very well for. I actually think it is more effective than cod at managing my pain. It is probably worth experimenting with for pain management if one is looking for a pain medicine that doesnt have the strong sedative effects of narcotic pain relivers. Tram is not a narcotic. However, it binds to opioid receptors producing a mild narcotic effect. Worth a try in my opinion.

It will vary from person to person. I'd suggest for anyone prone to opiate temptation, this has a potent risk to it, add to that it's a two-fronted addictive possibility.

For me, it's just one thing in my opiate cocktail, but it carries risk, so be careful.

I would like to know ppls opinions on trams vs oral morphine.... I have terrible pain, but have read taking morphine orally is not very effective....are trams more effective..thanks

hope this is the right place to post this

IMHO  Morphine. In any form is much better than tramadol.  Read the stories in this thread. Sorry hope you feel better.  Xo

I really wish I didn't disagree with you but I do.

No matter how much oral morph I take it, just doesn't touch me. Same with codeine. Guess it's just my silly liver!

Yes, CatITHis right taken both, but I am afraid to say that morphine is much more addictive.  Not good for me..  But morphine is much more effective...  Good luck  hypno

never hesitate to disagree with me about something like that!  I have never even had morphine to compare....lol.

my doc just did a gene test one me that shows what meds wont work well and what will...interesting enough morphine it says would have zero working time on me...my bdy would do anothing with it...

my pain doc didnt believe me when i got it prescribed to me the other yr....she thought i was looking for something stronger,....like what im usually on..

well now i can go back and prove to her that morphine will not ever work on me..

btw i recomend this test for anyone who can do it...it does show what of any kind of med will work and wont

I know this isn't on topic, but where do you get this kind of test done? (maybe you should PM me)

I may be in the minority here, but Tramps do absolutely nothing for me - except make me sleepy. My Dr gave me a 90 supply for pain and I swear I feel nothing on these. Maybe takes the edge off the pain, maybe? My system must be diff cause there is absolutely zero chance I would get addicted to these. I wouldn't waste money on them, my $15 copay was too much for these worthless pills. Just my opinion.

Everyone seems to act differently on them.

They give me loads of energy and if I take them after 6pm there is no chance I will sleep that night but they do take away my pain.

Codeine and DHC do absolutely nothing for me. Even at silly doses I just get a little itch.

Tramadol is my DOC for pain and for a buzz in recreational doses.

The effect varies from person to person because the amount and efficiency of the CYP2D6 produced between individuals. The CYP2D6 enzyme is responsible for metabolizing Tramadol into Morphine in the liver. Some people completely lack this enzyme. There are certain chemicals which can induce or inhibit CYP2D6 production. You can look this up online. It's odd though that you would feel a great reaction from Tramadol but nothing from Codeine since it's the same enzyme which turns both into morphine.

Tr@m@dol is a SNRI as well as an opioid, so that could well be the explanation, I don't think it gets metabolised into morphine either, it gets metabolised into  O-desmethyltramadol, albiet via the same enzyme. It's an opioid and not an opiate.

@PTFC oh yeah you're right it turns into 0-desmethyltramadol not M0Rpheen, my mistake. I think I was thinking of Kodeen..
