Watch Your Mail Carrier

I've had NUMEROUS USPS domestic standard #10 envelopes shredded to pieces. They arrive in a plastic bag with a bogus apology stating that they care about my service, bla bla bla. You simply can't trust a bloated Government bureaucracy like the USPS, if you receive anything from them successfully, count your blessings.

I've never had a problem with private couriers like UPS, FedEx etc. They're more expensive, but they aren't incompetent, lazy BUMS like the USPS "workers".

I have family that works at USPS... It is tthe only way I send and receive mail, BY LAW USPS can't look in any piece of mail or it is there ass... Most USPS employees will not risk there job to steal a letter or package because they will be fired..

I've ordered with vendor that sends through a private company (e.g., FedEx, UPS), and first time everything was fine. Second time, I guess the driver figured things out and package was out for delivery since October. I even had a manager call from the company saying they were going to call the sending company to file a claim....yeah right, I'm sure they will answer the phone and fill out your paperwork. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Oh well!

Yeah, by law that is correct. But those who live in a small town like I do know that isn't always the case. My dad used to complain about the mail people here checking his magazines to see what was in the black plastic Playboy cases. When he passed I inherited his subscription, and after a few months I noticed a rip. That same rip would appear 3-4 times a year. My state is notorious for their control of pornography and personal toys. I tried to order a vibrator from Adam and Eve once and they refused to ship here. I don't get Playboy anymore but am worried that my PO will look inside my packages from India. Heck they don't even have to look inside if they're smart enough. Theres labels stapled to the package saying "Pain-o-Soma" if you can read it. If I didn't know the content it might not seem so clear to me....Unfortunately my state does control carisoprodol, unlike many others. I hope I don't find out the hard way what penalties importing a controlled substance carries.

I've had my share of "interesting" experiences with UPS and another shipping company over the years. Torn packages, retaped....lower than expected product....I guess it goes with da territory..

Ya it's also bad when you send a package insured for a lot and it has the price on it then they know its something valuable

Wow! I worked at the USPS, started when I was 17, and I do know that they are very restrictive and watchful of the employees. But the carriers out in the field cannot be watched.. you are all correct with the assumption that the carriers ( at least the ones that aren't on 'career' status with the pay and benefits ) can be shady people.  I.E. My regular carrier went on a leave of absence for about 3 weeks, and his replacement was a total dingbat!! She thought it to be appropriate standing at peoples doorways starting up conversations when she ought to have been working her route ( they are timed ya know ). At any rate, I just so happened to be expecting an IOP package anyday.. keep in mind that for years I have been ordering and selling items via eBay... and whad'ya know - here comes miss Chatty Kathy mail carrier with my package.  She stood at my door, and for the first time she was asking me what was in the package; all the while shaking it to listen!!! I happily replied ' oh, my eBay is finally hear ' and only then did she hand me the package, and also remembered that I was to sign for it?

That entire scene was not only unprofessional but against the USPS internal controls & regulations. Since I happen to have a longtime work history with them, I knew the procedure on what this 'temp' carrier had broken.  Needless to say, I took the steps to not only report the delivery grevience, but guarantee that the 'Residential Complaint' report was put into her permanent file; and funny how she no longer delivers mail for the USPS.

Everyone needs to know that your USPS mail carrier does not have the right to question residential recipients on the contents of a delivered package!! By the time that package makes it to your house, it has gone through every process deemed necessary of the USPS for safe and legal delivery! So, as far as the USPS is concerned, if your mail carrier is questioning and probing about contents of your mail,be it a package or a letter, that is a federal offense. No different than if your neighbor was to ask or open your mail for that matter. Mail carriers are only the 'HANDLERS' of your mail, owned by you and/or the sender....USPS is only the middle person/ handler....do not let the carrier intimidate your personal business!!!!

No, because a friend said UPS but I was asking if they used multiple methods because that's NOT far fetched of an idea. And yeah, she asked and I a million questions but that specific thing wasn't brought up. Next day is NEX DAY

i became friends with mine but his substitute didn’t like me

this is why I request for all my mail to be held at the local station  and pick it up myself

Can you please show a link to this? I know USPS needs a warrant to open a suspicious looking package but UPS and Fed Ex don't. How I wish you were right but my brown driver got so he would peer hard at the left hand top lablel. Then he asked what was in it. My fumbling with the writing device saved me at the time because I didn't answer in the confusion and he reluctantly handed it over. But if I ever ordered again I know that he would grill me hard. He was my friend too for a while in the begining but something has changed in the last year since that fine. Now Jewy assures me that the 40 million that paid out for shipping online pharmacy meds is a drop in the bucket for them, maybe the managers got on the drivers about looking harder.

@Gator How do you set up your mail being held at a brown station? A mail box?

I read the earlier posts about the delivery person not knocking on the door and instead just leaving a could not deliver notice in the mail box saying sorry I missed you, come to the PO to pick it up.

Last week I got one of those sorry we missed you notices for a normal letter and i wondered how culd i miss that. I work from home and the dogs bark loudly with an knock. Same thing happened again today, a sorry we missed you notice.

What's funny about today is our windows are open and I was working from the coucNdola a front facing room and watched the mail truck pull up and stop and then leave after filling three mail boxes from his truck. Never saw him get out of the truck at all so he just stuffed the second sorry we missed you notice in the mail box. So apparently I have a lazy mail man.

As a heads up, you are not allowed to mail folder sized letters that weigh over 13oz by using stamps and dropping it in the mail box yourself. You must hand it to a mail person at the counter to stamp it even if you put your own postage on it.

I couldnt agree more Raymond! I love my mailperson to death, but a decent tip for Christmas, and a lil basket of goodies at Easter makes my mail carrier one of the good ones!
