Moneygram Troubles!

Ok, so it happened to me today. Tried to use MG for the 4th time (total) and the transfer did not go through. I was asked to call customer service. I have read enough on this forum to know what that means. I tried to call 2 different times just being put on hold and never actually getting a live person before hanging up. I'm really nervous about this as I think the church money donation excuse is probably the best to use to compensate for my track record of sending to different names. Just wondering what my next steps should be, tried to cancel the transaction online but it would not cancel. Should I go in store and try or can someone pm me a foolproof excuse? I must admit I'm scared the church excuse won't fly from me cause it's so far fetched for me. Thanks to all - just looking for any new ways (if there are any) to get this transaction to go through.
I would just say that I'm buying spices for my cooking class.

Be careful about saying that you're buying stuff. That makes them nervous you may get scammed. Generally speaking, the better you know the person (family is really good), the more likely they'll send it through based on the fear that you'll be scammed and sue them. As far as the AREAS we send to, and different receivers most every time - that's a problem. I like 2E's solution to that. It's a good one.

First, the church donations is a story I would stick to - call it a mission, tell them that they have different people pick it up, you appreciate them checking because the people working at the mission tell you that it is very corrupt down there. Period.

In terms of actual sending and doing it at walmart vs. a grocery store vs. a mom and pop shop: remember the clerk taking your money has NO influence on whether your MG gets processed and sent through. MG's computers have receiver names that get fed into it every day, and all the clerk is doing, whether it is some mom and pop shop or a super walmart, is entering your information into the exact same computer system. The MG computer system decides whether your transaction will go through or be denied.

Also apparently if you've been banned you can be reinstated. I was "banned" from MG about a year ago (at which point I stopped using any wire services for ordering) but now I am free to use it again (just sent some funds to a kid.) FWIW

Sciatic-

Did you have to call MG to have your account reactivated? Or did you just try it and it went through?

Further info would be very appreciated as I was banned over a year ago as well and I would love to be able to use it again!!

Just made my 3 mg transaction online in 2 months. No problems at all.

Guess I've been lucky and made many a MG transaction both online and in person and never had a problem. Then all of a sudden the receiver told me it was blocked. They truly do have the worst customer service imaginable. Sat on hold for 3 hours one day and got no where.  Got up at 6am the next day to try again at a less busy time.

On the plus side it was blocked and under review all because the name was similar to another's that was banned. Had my story all ready but no need. Only had to talk to the right dept and they set things straight and cleared the transaction. Still a total of 4.5 hours on the phone is ridiculous.

Just thought id add that experience as I hadn't read anyone having a problem with MG flagging a transaction all because a name was close to one on their list. I.E. Jon Smith vs John Smith etc...

Also for those that do have to cancel a transaction, I didn't know this but I'm sue it's been posted, it takes 7-10 business days to refund an online transaction, or so I was told.

This is how i see it never i  mean never use mg or wu online service/phone service. and i mean never. As a rule i always use cash and one of my many local grocery store customer service counters that have mg or wu. They never ask any unnecessary questions, i just make sure the receivers name is spelled right and the city country stuff is right and that all. Never had any problems.

Just thought I'd let everyone know I called Moneygram and used the church mission excuse. The lady allowed the transaction to go through but then the automated system denied it. The transaction was cancelled, but I was not blocked from using Moneygram. Yay! She suggested I go in person to try this transaction again. I went in person to a Moneygram location and to my surprise the clerk told me I could only pay with cash or debit card - no credit card. I always pay with a credit card online so this was a deal breaker for me. I cancelled the transaction and walked away. Just wanted to let everyone know if you go in person to use Moneygram you cannot pay with a credit card but you can online.  I've since used Moneygram online again with my credit card and everything went smoothly with a different receiver. Online is the way to go for me.

none of my online moneygram transfers have ever been denied....yet.

Yes, let me reiterate. Online is NOT encouraged. It's so much easier in the long run to go in person. Even that will become more difficult in the near future.  I  know a few vendors are working on alternate payment methods and we are all going to have to become comfortable with them if we want to keep ordering.
Hi 2,

I was wondering if you have had any success with other payment options? Thanks.

Best,

P

MG ONLINE will not let me use one of my credit cards....i call the card and they let it go through but money gram keeps saying its on the banks end and the bank says its on MG end...

so i have to use another card...

have you tried and called the card to see whats up maybe there blocking it...?

I've had little to no success using MG or WU online. So, I've begun going in person.  Now, WU has gone hinky on me.  They sent me an email back in May that a xfer had been picked up, but there's no record of the MTCN number on their website although it shows on my activity page and no refund.  I had a chat session with one of their agents and she said she would "look into it" I went in person today to xfer money to a questionable country (PK) got a MTCN number, and nothing has happened. They haven't even processed the payment.   I'm beginning to get a bit paranoid that customs has flagged my account and is seizing everything I try to send.  MG is working fine for me as long as I go to the mom & pop.  Is anyone else experiencing these kinds of issues?

Hi, everyone. About to make my first order. DBG speaks very highly of Jim at *liteRX so I emailed him. he said no problem but they are only taking MG due to problems with WU. Now I am a little worried about ordering. Is it safe to give your info to MG? It seems to be a hassle for many to use it online. Do I tell MG the receiver is my girlfriend's uncle or something? Any help would be appreciated.

@Hedrushx if you go in person, the only question they are going to ask is if you know the receiver. Online and you may have to answer a lot of questions. I have never had a problem going in person to the big box store.

That's what someone else told me, thanks so much.

go to your local grocery store, they have a customer service counter, like where they sell tobacco make your mg wu transfer there  in person, make sure you spell the name of the receiver exactly as told by the vendor, make sure you have the correct city country the funds are going to to and what currency you would like your usd to be sent as. This is my way of doing things when i need to mg/wu funds they never ask any questions. and if they do say your making a donation to a charity. Kaws errbody lovs geesaws.

i just said this to western union, which i never used...

they questioned me to death an?d then asked me why my reciver has gotten paid from different countries the last few weeks..

like why the F would i know that? I said im donating for a church cause and im guessing so are they....

i was then denied..guess not everyone believes in god :/

This should be pinned, always go in person!

Ive done this more times than I want to even think about!  I ALWAYS go in person, lately most of the time to W World, Im planning on trying a few quick loan places that can send

a MG.  How many of you have had luck trying those places to send MG?  I always get a female employee at W World in the

Service Center.  Lately they have been asking a lot of questions, first off do you know this person.  I usually tell them that I have never met him but his Momma helps me with

my house and she wants to send him money. I had one employee to question me further and I told her that there couldn't be any loss to me because I am

taking it out of her pay.  And I have been  asked why I am not sending this from the W World in my hometown.  <-----I consider that to be nosey!  I asked the woman if she had ever

shopped at the W World in my hometown?  I never do  because it is so small they don't have most of what I need.  So far it has worked every time, I think my story is ok.  My problem

is I do not like sending this in my own name.  Sometimes I don't.  So I try to be careful to approach the MG line only after I watch to see if the lady or ladies seem to know what they are doing, are they really busy, or not busy enough?  Are they questioning people that they are helping, does it look like they are being nice or sarcastic.  I have left before and came back when one of the women seemed to be having

a terrible day and I didn't want any part of it.  I know that if the payment is sent wrong I loose the money.  This is why I asked if any of you have used the loaner places to send a MG.  I am thinking I want to try, and just send a very small amount to see how it goes.

Ive never used the Im donating to a church group reason because I don't think I look like someone that would be donating say $200 to $300. I know that reason has been used and it has worked for a lot of people I just don't think I could play that part well enough if they started asking questions.   If I was asked more than two or three questions I think I would politely ask for my paperwork back and say thank you and leave.  I would think of another reason and try a different business.
