The Attraction of Xanax

@tightlines Thanks man, I would very much appreciate some book recommendations. I might ask my doc about Lor@zapam. I'm lucky I have a GP who is very receptive to discussing medication and prescribing what we both think is appropriate. Just goes to show that a good, trusting relationship with a primary care physician is more valuable than gold. For now the xanax is working, but I don't want to rely on it long term. And I don't really like the sedation, which I've heard klonopin is better for keeping a clear head.

I don't experience any kind of euphoria from Xan. I just get drowsy and experience a few hours of relief for M the constant anxiety I experience.  I don't take them everyday.  They make me hungry.
Glad to hear others feel this way. Even 25 mgs puts me to sleep.

I've been on Xanax since 16 for medical reasons (seizures and severe anxiety.) Then I get injured in Iraq and get addicted to PK's and doctors won't let me near a alp (I live in a state that its very hard to get them prescribed w a history of drug abuse even if it wasn't Xanax I was addicted to.)  I don't get shit from clonazepam and can eat 10 vals and feel normal.

Point being, I'll need them for the forseeable future. Be careful, we all have our demons.  But acid and peyote has helped a bit, lol.

Thanks for the suggestion, @tightlines. Since I posted that I have seen my doctor about my anxiety and he didn't hesitate to prescribe .25mg xanax. I think that's the lowest dose they come in, but for me it seems to work. I even can get some relief from half a pill. I don't seem to have much of a panic disorder, just some generalized anxiety, worry, fear, dread, overwhelming racing thoughts, etc. I'm working with a therapist to find other ways of calming down my mind as well, but the rx has really helped me have the confidence to leave the house and be more social, knowing I have a quick fix if things get out of hand.

We also tried Lexapro for a daily med, but I really didn't like the way it made me feel after a week or so. Terrible side effects, dark disturbing thoughts, and didn't feel like myself. So now he's prescribed Buspar which I haven't started taking yet because it's also one that takes a while to build up in the system and I'm leary of it after the Lex experience. I'm thinking about starting it now that I have some down time between semesters to gauge the effects of it carefully.
Hi again @javaman

I went to my GP recently to ask for an ADD test and he said to try Lexapro???

A few friends said they had similar symptoms from it as you mention.

Might go for something/someone else

I've been off and on Xanax for the last 20 years. The appeal at first was the overwhelming sense of calm and relaxation it gave me. Then there's the fact that, for me, it has amazing synergistic effects when combined with cannabis.

In the mid '90's while on a day trip to Tijuana a friend asked me the exact same question. He was like you drive all the way to Mexico, a 2 hour drive from where I was at the time, just for Xanax. He said he could understand feeling that way about opiates, but just couldn't understand my love for Xanax. I think it has to do with the fact that all of our brains are different. I actually had undiagnosed anxiety disorders and OCD, which the Xanax treated nicely. If you don't have any conditions that Xanax is actually used for then it will likely not be as rewarding of an experience to your brain.

Well it's been a love hate relationship ever since then. A few years after the TJ trip, online pharmacies started popping up, and it was actually cheaper to get a 2mg bar delivered to my house for around one dollar each than make that trip all the way to Mexico and pay 80 cents for a 1mg football. So I was ordering 180 bars at a time from multiple online US based pharmacies. Ordering online was completely legal until the Ryan Haight Act made a face to face consult necessary, ordering from multiple pharmacies was still illegal but they never checked back then. Overnight all the US based online pharmacies closed or switched to non controlled meds only. I had over 1,000 Xanax bars saved up when the online US pharmacies closed up shop. I watched the street price for a bar jump from $2 each to $5 each or even more. I couldn't continue taking 8mg a day at those prices. That's when I started using International pharmacies. I've ordered from every corner of the earth and only got fakes once from China. I got the GG249's that were actually phenazepam, not cool. That stuffs deadlier than xanax, an entire topic on its own.

My addiction continued until I was forced to cold turkey withdrawal in jail. I don't know how that isn't considered cruel and unusual punishment, but it isn't. I had DT's hardcore. The wall was breathing, my head hurt so bad I couldn't feel it anymore, no sleep for 2 weeks, and a few seizures to boot. I was in isolation so I never received treatment for the seizures.

I stayed off Xanax for almost 2 years after that and then fell right back in. One bar and the psychological addiction came right back. Then I quit cause of money reasons. This time I did a proper taper, but it still sucked. Then back on then back off, you are seeing the picture now.

I tapered down and got off them again back in January, probably the 10th time. My mailman was stealing my packs from Doc and Doc had his website down so I started tapering in early January and was off of them by early February. I still have around 200 of the 1mg alzams from Doc. I honestly don't know what to do with them. My plan at first was to have them on hand for a rare occasion, but I fear I will slip right back into addiction. I don't want to illegally sell them even though I could get rid of them at work in about a minute.

I'd like to tell myself that this was the last ride on the Xanax rollercoaster, but who knows. My brain loves the stuff. My anxiety and OCD fade away and I feel so free, yet I know I'm a prisoner of addiction locked behind bars made of xanax.

I take alp when I need quick short term anti anxiety help, but for daily longer-term help I mix n match diaz and clon.

Same, I also add in Lorazepam occasionally. I try to be benzo clear at least three days a week to stop tolerance building too quickly. Although even with that three days out, tolerance still builds....

Stay safe..

The link above talks about flumazanil, a gaba a antagonist used for benz od but could have ootential to reverse tolerance. Sound like it could be dangerous, but if you read the link they make a case for its potential.

Hey all I’m new to forum. When I was younger I was against the illegal distribution of illegal substance, now I’m on the other side. What happened to me was I went to the dentist and ended up with tinnitus, occlusal trauma.. woke up one day lost my hearing, went to see a hearing specialist they recommended hearing aid, then one day I was able to hear but the sound was amplify really loud. I started getting dizzy spinning around and heard ringing noises in my ear.. and it happens everyday.. went to 3 psychiatrist and 1 ear and throat doctor to see if they would prescribe me Xanax but ended up with topimate instead.. I get my Xanax from ttm2u, but there site has been down.. I don’t know where else to get it from, I’m lost as to find a legit site that sales it.. Xanax is the only pill that suppresses my tinnitus and I only use half a 1 mg of Xanax a night (drinking). If it weren’t for Xanax I’d be suicidal, tinnitus is a killer and there is no cure.

As soon as xanax takes effect  (which is very quick, 10-15 mins) I immediately feel no anxiety, no worry, no care at all really. I think that is the so called euphoria of alprazolam and most benz. It's not like the happy warm feeling of opiates, stims, alcohol, etc. Just an immediate release of all cares and fears. As someone else mentioned I tend to overeatwhile on xanax not necessarily because I'm hungry, just because I simply don't give a shit. I also noticed I did quite a bit of shoplifting which is totally out of character for me. Once again I just didn't give a shit. I had the money to pay for my items I just didn't care about getting caught or the consequences

Most people are fascinated by bars because of this new young drug using rap culture that has popularized Xanax as the "cool thing to do" and its really not cool. I take xanax for anxiety not to get high and I wish I did not have to take meds just to feel normal. Its also sad because you have teenagers now listening to the music and becoming addicted to drugs sometimes more than xanax and then they are stuck with addiction problems the rest of their life. On the other hand,  my main med I take is Clonazepam.  It helps my anxiety,  doesn't make me tired, and does provide a little euphoria. Anyways just thought I'd share my 2  cents.

  5. Ketmaster @ Ketmaster: Pretty sure most pharmacies won't honor a prescription from those kinds of services.

  15. LatsDoodis @ LatsDoodis: Pharmacies, too. I switched my psychiatrist and just went through a pill mill telehealth place for a half year, then it got popular and all major pharmacies stopped filling Rx stims for this company’s independent contractor-providers, regardless of any reason than they treated ADHD patients with stims and it was a lot of people. Independent medical judgment from clinicians licensed and following rules. I needed the treatment. Who cares how many patients use the company? They followed the rules.
  16. LatsDoodis @ LatsDoodis: That’s wild. It should be medical judgment, not corporate fear of lawsuits. Go set that doc straight. You need to have pain controlled aggressively or not at all. Be consistent.
