Warning to all members and vendors

We have had many clients scammed over the last few months by different tactics, but all involved Proton Mail.
The first scammer was able to infiltrate a vendor’s email and extorted extra funds for “sending extra by mistake.” It appears that anyone who wrote that vendor could have been infected.
Then another hacker is copying the email addresses and menus, with 2 vendors being targeted so far. This is also Protonmail, and the giveaway is that one vendor’s name is misspelled, and both of these emails contained a different email adress next to the lock. That the email address that was a steroid forum. These emails contained red text. Make sure the 2 addresses are the same.
Now we have a third scammer who infiltrated a email conversation, then changed one letter in the vendor’s name that wasn’t easily identified, with the bitcoin address. This scammer asked for extra funds to double the order.
Please read any vendor emails very carefully. Make sure the email address is exactly the same as the vendor’s contact in every stage of contact. With some vendors who publish email addresses, check the bitcoin address.
So far this has affected only Protonmail. We had a similar problem in 2020-2021.
There’s a long thread about those hackers/scammers:

Be safe and be careful! I will update this as more information becomes available.

No, they weren’t, as far as I know.

We were just headed to our favorite pub in the neighborhood where the past bartender mentioned your presence on the net and comes across great buys - she shares info with me and I with her - the protonmail stuff - that's a biggie. Both her and I were ripped off from whoever they are. Happened back in March and let me tell ya, if it wasn't for the fact that we're guessing they're not here in Houston TX, we'd be scouring the city looking for them. I've been a buyer for over 20 years and never got scammed. That really burned me. Thanks for the info, if I see her tonight, I'll mention that you're aware of the Proton Prowlers.

Thanks. Sorry to hear about you and your friend.

This exact same email looks like it’s gone out to multiple members now (I see someone else posted screenshot of them getting the same over on Report Scammers thread). You’ll notice if you click on the “From” email, it’s masked as “DBG” but in reality is coming from the same “…@seznam.cn”SCAM domain that was involved in the last shenanigans masking as Dr Faustuss and other vendors.

Guys and gals .. it is pertinent that you ALWAYS check who an email is being sent from before clicking any links or corresponding in any way. You can also hover the link and inspect the url that it’s going to be directing you to. Even so much as clicking a link can result in your device being compromised. This is cybersecurity 101. Do not click links EVER unless you are 110% certain you know the sender!!

If anything else, ignore. Don't get scammed and lose your hard earned money.
Always be cautious and verify email addresses twice, same with vendors.
Spend the extra seconds doing so to keep your funds safe.

Remember when "protonmail is the safest email!"? Hackers find a way.
Protonmail is far from safe, fuck the hackers. They keep logs of everything you do and will co operate with LE. It’s only encrypted if you have proton and the recipient has protonmail also, but protonmail themselves likely hold the key to unlock whatever it says in your emails. If you are emailing any other email service other than proton your encryption goes out the window. It’s been proven that the proton vpn also keeps logs and spy on you, it’s on Reddit. The only thing that protonmail is, is just a convenient email app that everyone thinks is “safe”. I use it myself but that’s only cuz ide rather use it so mine and other vendors emails are encrypted from prying eyes(at least until LE contacts protonmail).

Holy cow, this is scary. I changed my Proton password and even have a paid subscription to all the apps thinking it was so safe (it's never been breached in years of having simply a free account) but then I don't store my password on my devices, keep them separate for security (considering I use it mainly for this purpose). Now I am worried about my DBG password; hell, even my PIA VPN password was in there. And I got that damn link and stupidly clicked on it, realized it was a scam when it sent me to log in to my Proton again on the web. This sucks, and I freak out about stuff like this. I think we all try to be so careful and then some clown (who means business, obviously), sends out something like this. I can't believe I clicked the link. In my defense I'd not been feeling well the day it popped into my mailbox and I didn't scrutinize it as I should have.

And now I'm dealing with recovering my account and making sure it's locked down and has a backup email. This really is freaking me out. Somebody please talk me down from the panic attack I am taking!

As long as you didn’t type in your email and pw to the fake proton login page, you should be fine. Usually links like that are phishing attempts to get ppl to give there login credentials to fake look-alike websites where the ‘hacker’ will then have access to your username and pw.

You took the right steps in setting up a new pw for sensitive apps! I think you should be just fine if all u did was click the link!

I clicked on someone's paste bin this morning and it was someone else's, not the person whose it was supposed to have been.

Are you talking about tgc-rc.ru? There were a lot of fake versions of their site addresses going around the actual site is 100% legit and very professional!
Use http://www.tgc-rc.ru/ and it will list their other legit addresses as well as a .onion address if you prefer

Aren’t http addresses generally considered unsafe? If it isn’t httpS , don’t click on it? At least that’s what what I was taught by duck duck go and EFF and others. HTTPS everywhere. I could be wrong( and often am)

  3. N @ nickelz34: I am an opal sponsor where do I find the password for the pass protected section ?
  4. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: whereas if I use fiat to buy something the money is green anyway. Monero does this really well. Anyway rant over, you can DM me if you'd like to talk more about cryptos.
  5. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: I don't really think that people understand the whole point of cryptos in the first place anymore. BTC just won't be adopted by governments because the transactions are too public and what's worse, money that is freshly minted is better than money that has been used. Like if my btc was used for something that was illegal does that mean the money is "poisoned"?
  6. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: @xenxra Yeah, Like I said I've never really been that fond of btc, it isn't used as a currency, just as a place for people to invest money in, even though the whole purpose of btc was to be a currency. If it doesn't fulfill that role, what does? Monero certainly does.
  7. tiquanunderwood @ tiquanunderwood: What's good guys! Just got back home. Missing football today :( Fuck the probowl lol
  8. shoutback @ shoutback: Volkanovski is the greatest featherweight of all time. Better than Aldo or Holloway at their peaks.
  9. S @ sawganaut: I bet btc bottom is in
  10. D @ dragnetopher: No, I don’t think it. I know it. And it’s not just bitcoin, it’s all crypto. And like I said, they’re selling to acquire liquidity for when countries truly start utilizing what’s been set in place. The USD is under controlled demolition as we speak. This is all part of it.
  11. xenxra @ xenxra: there is no shortage of whales - https://tikolu.net/i/fmnru.png
  12. xenxra @ xenxra: tokenisation is not a plan its already been happening for months, ive been trading this whole move on silver through ethereum
  13. xenxra @ xenxra: you think whales are dumping bitcoin because of something everyone has known about for like 4 years? what does bitcoin liquidity have to do with trading tokenized assets? they don't have pooled liquidity.
  14. D @ dragnetopher: Whales are tanking BTC due to the fact that the future is coming now, literally. There’s a plan to tokenize every single asset possible. This is whales dumping so they can have liquidity for the Springtime.
  15. xenxra @ xenxra: @Gulp2788 this is a terrible spot to buy bitcoin haphazardly because it's going down another $5k -$7k if 80,000 doesn't hold. i told everyone to get the fuck out of bitcoin at $103k. it's better to buy late when the bottom is more certain than throw darts and act like the opposite outcome was unavoidable just because it went down "a lot" and everyone seems to be "freaking out". wait for it to get back over 85k
  16. xenxra @ xenxra: @aarons the last time i said monero was on discount in here it went up 5x in 3 months
  17. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: good opportunity to buy more btc if you are gonna do so imo, me I'm buying the btc to switch into better currencies
  18. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: bah politics, no need to worry BTC is a honeypot anyway
  19. fishladder @ fishladder: down since trump
  20. Gulp2788 @ Gulp2788: btc has been hovering around 90k for a year everyone is freaking out tbh I am laughing
