Moneygram Troubles!

What about paying online with MG instead of going into somewhere to do it in person? Would that cause more problems?
Do yourself a favor and look back at some older threads about paying with MG online.  It wont be hard to find, that question has been

answered 1,000 times.

Can i ask are use guys walking into say the local post office to do these transactions ?

Im from the UK ..And have only ever had one rejected and it was at the other end the vendors account blocked i went back changed the name and that was that ..My main vendor is having trouble collecting funds his end at the moment so is considering bitcoin ..But over in the UK for example i done a money gram the other day in a travel agents ..In my friends name the women was that concerned that my e-cig looked like a gun she let me sign my mates name ..The payment went threw no bother ..

if it does come to the case everyone moves to bitcoin it be handy if someone can do a full tutorial as for me its always been confusing as feck .Especially now that virtual money has to be laundered as such ..Ive never understood why all domestic vendors do not just except cash in the post ..Its the most effective way thats if yous are on a good trust level .
UK newbie here. I too used to use MG all the time only ever had a couple of problems when the name of receiver was spelt wrong & I had to go back to the same Post Office where I had done original transaction.

Sending cash in the post would be fine with me but I would have to have 100% trust in the seller in fact 10000000% trust !

Buddy, you won't find that in the Mexican section. It's going to take a mastery of MG or WU and if you read my opinions on sending funds (a few will disagree), I find it much more successful in person vs online. I base this on years of transactions without being banned or even denied. I go with cash to the big box store 90% of the time.

They are not likely to ask you anything in person. The only question I have ever been asked is do I know this person.

I prepared a back story but never needed it. They just want to move the line along.

Have to agree here ..Im looking and thinking whats the big deal ?

I used the last time a travel agents ..Walks in now my friends the one got the ID the women was so busy having banter about my e-cig she let me do his signature ..We noted that place as a Sunday as she was saying she works every Sunday (so we no she wont ask anything) she never even questioned the amounts ..The problems with Money gram shops is there linked direct to probably higher up people ..With these small places use should have no problems as there main business (travel agent) (post office) etc so they aint interested in if your sending 5 grand to Bangladesh..Online is where my troubles were i only sent once second time i was emailed and thought this is gonna lead to trouble ..So now its all locations travel around a bit ,wear different hats etc anything that makes yous feel at ease ..If its above £600 /$700 then you need id ,split it instead yes 2 fees but its then your feeling safe ..But id never use false details anyway theres people using these payment methods 24/7 ..

That's a good point. I have never sent more than around  $800 in one shot and if I had to send again right away, I would switch to WU.

How do I know if I've been banned from MG?  I have attempted to send to R 3 times and he claims they aren't available.  When I check tracking online it says "ready for pickup",  when I call the 800 number it also says the funds are available for pick up.  I spoke to MG customer service to ask why they aren't able to pick up,  and I was told everything appears normal,  and the receiver should be able to get the cash.   R thinks I'm banned now,  but why wouldnt MG tell me this when talking to customer service?  The amount is not large.  I'm really confused.

Any words of experience would be greatly appreciated!

False alarm... Money has finally been received.  Not sure what the issue was,  just glad it's resolved!

Yeah...so...I tried to place an order with SL yesterday BEFORE even thinking to search about possible problems with Money Gram. It didn't occur to me that I would find a cite, research my item, contact a seller, make a connection via email and place an order only to be denied the services of Money Gram. And this seems to be the only method he is currently taking. I made a donation this morning to gain access to the SY Vendor list in the hopes of finding someone to take CCs or maybe even Paypal. Rats!!!
Don't give me any info but I just thought I'd ask if you did find any Mexican sources who take CC's or Paypal?   Terrible chronic pain, disability, lead to dead car so those issues are very important to me.

When processing a MG transaction today at a grocery store they asked for my birthdate and country of birth. Apparently MG has changed the online form that the clerk uses to require that info. As with my alias I just made up my birthdate. I keep my transactions well under $500 so they're less likly to ask for ID. That happened a couple of times at Wmart.

whoa! I go to places that aren't walmart and I keep a stack of forms for sending at my home - filled out and I just appear with cash and out within 10 mins.  I've never ever have been asked this and I used Mg last week.

The only issues with Alias's is that you cannot get your funds given back to you if for some reason your receiver is blocked, and then you need to go to WU. If you use an alias for a name several times and they just asked this - my paranoid self would be very caught off guard.  I've never in 7 almost 8 years have heard of this and all the forms I picked up last week haven't a section for that.

Yep.  I use small places that I won't name but same thing - they don't care.  They have a million people trying to do stuff too that don't have banks and send to MX as well. I use places that only do Mg (among other stuff) and then there's places that only do WU and other stuff - here in an urban setting it's very common in some states. Online is instant phone call for any amount and your answers won't matter, they refund it and you go pick it up with your ID. I just always look super busy, well put together and in a hurry with small amounts.

I wish receiver names were recycled a bit, to me that's a lot of the issues for us sending

MG refused to send the money.  WU sent after I explained the money was for the husband of my cleaning lady.

I have a newbie question to members, which I know, probably has been asked and answered a million times.  But sometimes situations change over time.  And, an answer given six months ago may not be correct at the present time.  So, here it goes: receiver names...if you order (let's say twice a month) and the receiver is always different...does this increase your chances of being "watched and/or flagged"?

I had a vendor, in the past, whom I used the same receiver for years...I felt more secure.  All this switching...makes me nervous.

Am I being paranoid?

(If you see this post twice, apologies.  I posted within the wrong thread).

My vender uses different receivers almost always, I order very frequently - sometimes it's the same name from a few months ago - other times it's totally new. I do worry and your question is far from stupid.

Does it flag you? If I had to guess? Yes. They will call the phone # you provide on the send money sheet and ask you who/why/what/where, regarding you sending money.  The thing is, no matter what you say, they will likely deny it and refund you. If they call it's usually the kiss of death of that transaction.  I've been through it a few times years ago, and I'd just go get my money and go to WU. Of course your vender may have a different receiver for WU / MG so you need to communicate with them before changing methods.

the "flag" I believe has to do with a few things:

The amount

If there is a certain crackdown going on.

And total speculation here: If the person you go to and hand the MG "send money sheet" feels off about you, they may have some sorta say in it when processing it.  Just something I've noticed. I've been asked "have you sent to this person before?" as they are typing it in.  I say "no, not at all" and then hold my breath. I think it helps to go to certain places other than walmart too

No, they do not. It's not safe on either side seeing both sources you stated will ask too many questions in the longrun. I'm sorry to hear about that, but one method you could use is bitcoins. Do some research on them, it's fully anonymous transactions. You just need to find the right place with good rated vendors that sell bitcoins at a good price. There's a bitcoin price monitor on the front page that gives a semi-accurate price range to expect for approx. 1 BTC (one bitcoin).

I definitely had something different happen that has never happened to me before and it really "scared me." The reason why it did is because of what happened, I thought that I WOULD BE banned. I had sent MG funds to a receiver that was picking up for "R." R emailed me the same afternoon apologizing up and down but what had happened is that the receiver ended up being blocked. I was not given an explanation why but I can only assume that the receiver had picked up their limit for the day. I will say R sent I know three emails telling me how sorry he was that it had happened and just apologizing over and over. I really respect R for the apologizes and at no time did I get upset at the situation. Upset - no. Worried - yes. I had to call MG to try and change the receiver. However, their "new policy" will not allow for them to change a receiver on the phone  or the internet - what happened was that the agent gave ME a new reference number and told ME to go pick the funds up and then RESEND them with the new receiver. I thought for sure that when I tried to resend the funds that the person doing the MG was going to tell me that I could not send them or something - or even possibly that the new receiver could not pick up the funds.....

I worried for nothing. Everything went through fine (yesterday). Have I been put on some list to be watched? Don't know and won't know unless something happens in the future. So, don't necessarily "freak out" if you can't change the receiver over the phone! The good part I guess is these days I only order about once every 3 months! This is in comparison to the twice a month that I was ordering! Different story!

ey all! I'm gonna make a purchase today. Some posts about questions from Money gram on whether we "know this person" has got me nervous. Could someone please advise on the correct answers for the possible questions I may receive? (I am not a very good liar, especially in the spot. Lol) or at least point me in the right direction where I may find info on this?? Thank you so much :)

p.s. Will they still ask these questions if I go in person to send the money ?

This thread has a lot of the answers you are seeking. They might not ask you anything, but if they do they will usually ask you if you know this person, and of course you do! Friend/in law, charitable institution if you want to elaborate. I have always went in person myself, but it's entirely up to yourself. There's a few threads on this subject, worth a read, it'll get your confidence up. ☺

hi @PTFC is it best to go to the PO and do it? I spoke to mg and they declined, full stop. so online mg has gone pop for me.
